OK, so if you know me, you probably already know that this kind of art is not what i normally do...ever. But, that's why i'm in school i guess. so here we go....
This is my 3-D Design final all finished. haha. yeah.

If you want to, go ahead and look at the project without reading the symbolism and take it how you want. During Critique some saw what i see in this but others saw things very differently-but more personally to their lives. It's interesting to me how we do that. I enjoyed hearing their views. There was one man in the critique that said it reminded him of when he got married---they were married in a way people were married a long time ago---when they wrap your hands together during the ceremony.... he talked alot about it and how my peice corresponded with that experience. So, look at it for yourself and after, if you want to read what my meaning of it is, feel free!

Procedure:
I covered a cardboard box in dark brown fabric and draped the inside in this tan fabric.
Once i finished the hands (carving them down and gluing the fingers back on (lol) and painting them over with watered down Gesso) Bryce helped me glue the hand to a square piece of cardboard, left it to dry overnight and then i glued that onto the back of the inside of the carboard box behind the draped fabric. Then i cut a hole in the fabric that was the right shape and pulled the hand through.
I positioned the other hand at the bottom where i wanted it after covering its base in the dark brown fabric. As for the chains, i bought them at Home Depot and spray painted them off white so they wouldn't look so harsh. then i laced the green and brown ribbon through them (with the help of Bryce!! he's so sweet...) I also bought those stick on hook things that are plastic...you know what i mean? and cut more holes in the fabric behind the lower-draped parts--and stuck them to the box. That's what the chains are hooked to. From there, the chains end in just the ribbon where it curls around each hand.

The Symbolism:
Yes, this piece is supposed to be symbolic. That was pretty much the assignment,--to create an enclosed space describing (symbolically) something about you or an issue.....it was pretty open ended. Anyway, I wanted it to be auto biographical. It evolved into a piece on Connection. Linking people together- relationships, friendships, CONNECTION. That's something that is so important to me. Just being connected to other people. Whether i've known them my whole life or the person i talked to on the bus the other day. It's ALL important to me. So that's what i wanted to portray.
The muted natural colors are used because i didn't want anything getting in the way- i wanted pure connection-down to the basics of life.
The hands are white because they're the focal point.
There is a green ribbon representing one person and a brown one representing another person. As they weave into the chain they connect and run together....
The chain does not go directly from one hand to the other. People are linked in different ways and sometimes through other people or things. It may not always be direct but it's still important and it's still a connection.
The chain at the right actuall is connected to the hand at the bottom left and runs underneath the tan fabric and "out" of the box. This is because we're all connected to many people.
The actual Draping of the tan fabric "leads" the eye through the piece and helps me show the viewer what i want them to see.
Also, the hand at the top right IS above the other. this was to further illustrate the importance of being connected. We can help eachother. We can lift others up through whatever kind of connection we have. and at the same time, we can be lifted too.

Final for Three-D Design

For my 3-D Design class our final is...well its too confusing to try and explain. But here are a few pics of one little part of the project.
What I did was mixed up that stuff that dentists/orthodontists use to make molds of your teeth--you know, they put the flavoring in it and its in that try and its usually pink...yeah that stuff. anyway, i mixed up about a gallon of that stuff in a water pitcher (i bought it at wal mart the night before just for this project...and no i doubt i'll be using it after this). and stuck my hand in and held it in place for just about ten minutes until it was stiff--just like when its in your mouth. Then i had to wiggle wiggle my fingers to get the air down to my fingers so it would release my hand without tearing.
Once i had my hand free i mixed up some plaster (plaster powder + water, mixed using my hand until smooth and thick) After it was done, i carefully poored it into the empty hand mold. I left it for ... mer...probably twenty minutes til it was dry and hard.
that next part was hilarous. It took FOREVER! i had to squeeze and pry the pitcher until it Finally released the whole thing. (i wish i had pics! it was so weird!...oh and it was blue, not pink like at the dentist) It felt like...cheese. anyway, i used a knife and my nails to carefully peel/rip it all off of the plaster hand. I felt like an archeologist! LOL.
Anyway, so now my job is to go in and scrape off all the filled air bubbles that look like warts. (yikes...) and smooth out the rough areas where the plaster wasn't mixed well enough etc. Its one of my favorite things-i love doing this! its so fun.

On the pic below, you can kinda see the wart-looking filled air bubbles in the palm of my hand.
still have some work to do....

Anyway, this one was actually a mess up. It needed to be a full hand up to my wrist at least. So i'll incorperate this one into my project somehow but i haven't figured it out yet.
I have the final one that worked out but the fingers all broke off from pressure, so i won't post it til i have it glued back together on friday...

He was ABsolutly terrified!

bryce asked Dad "the question".....! :) wooo hooO! he was so scared-he keeps telling me how scared he was. its so funny to me, especially because of Dad's reaction when he Did ask- he was so nice and made it easy on him and told him how excited he and mom are to have him as a son in law. AAAAWWW! he's so tender!
anyway, but i was happy that bryce was brave and asked him. He's so cute..... mmmeeeer. :)
So yeah, we're one step further!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!
As for my last blog, thanks you guys for the comments and advice. you're all totally right and i've thought those same things. i was just having a bad day, you know? I try not to let it bug me.
It IS funny though cuz i'm still having dreams several times a week about him proposing to me. haha. Last night i totally thought it was real cuz i even saw the ring up close and like put it up to the light. haha. it was a cool ring. definatly not the kind we've looked at but still cool. anyway, the whole situation cracks me up though. I decided yesterday to just be happy and excited that i'm at the point i'm at. I've been waiting three years to get to this point!! So why should i be unhappy about anything!? That's silly of me. So, yeah, here i am being happy whether bryce proposes this week or the day before we get married. .....although that could be...interesting. hehe. oh well.
i'm glad to have him live so close to me and that i get to see him Everyday! and i made dinner for him last night and it was super yummy! And what's really great is that we get to run errands TOGETHER!!! WAHOOO!!!! i know that sounds so funny but we actually talked about that alot before we lived in the same town--that it would be so much fun to be able to run errands together and buy food together. :) I don't care if that's dumb but i think it's awesome.
Thanks annette for the positive ~~~~~~~~~vibes~~~~~~~~~~ i think they totally worked cuz yesterday all the sudden i was in SUCH a goood moooood. I was talking to all these people on the bus and in line at wal-mart. hahaha. it was funny. Anyway, i have to go to my institute class! :)

My life? or theirs?

I decided i wanted to kind of....vent for a few minutes. And no, annette, its not about what you'd think. because i've put that behind me.
no, its actually about nosy people. Which is funny really, because i think i'm pretty nosy but...i'm working on it.
So bryce and i are not engaged yet. Obviously. i don't have a ring and i haven't gone around yet telling EVERYBODY in sight. So...NO we're not yet. But EVERYONE seems to think they should ask me every time they see me if we are yet. and when i say no, not yet, They have to know why not yet? and when?? Well, you know, I DON'T KNOW!!!! It's not my choice when he proposes or how! and i don't WANT to know! i would love to just let him suprise me. But no! now, since i've been asked so many times, its got me frustrated that he hasn't yet and i got snobby and annoyed with him and he had to give some of his suprise away so i wouldn't feel so bad! GRRR!!!! it makes me so mad!! if people would just mind their own beeswax i wouldn't have freaked out and made him feel bad and have to spoil my ONE CHANCE to be asked! Why does everyone have to be so nosy and think they know what's best for my life and that we're doing things all wrong because we aren't engaged yet.
OR there have been a couple of my FRiends that have been bold enough to say that we're moving TOO Fast and What's our rush?
What the heck!? When did my life become...not MY life but everyone else's?

The Elk at Hardware Ranch! finally. hehe. :)

We took these awesome pics on the way home. hehe. We're so cool
Dang, i'm gorgeous.
Bryce's amazing dancing
oh yeah baby

this was actually really cool. and some of the elk, you could tell, were way older than the others because of their antlers.

This was awesome--they were totally fighting. i got a ton of pics of it.

They eventually just like...gave up. lol
it was really bright and bryce kept trying to take a pic of me. this is the best he got. ha!oh wow....haha, hot!
